This article provides a step-by-step guide, complete with screenshots, on how to install and activate the Windows 8.1/Windows 8.1 Pro system.
The very first step is to download the installer. You can download the original Windows 8.1 Pro installer from our catalog.
Next, create a bootable flash drive from this distribution. You can find instructions on how to write Windows to a flash drive on the next page.
Afterward, boot from the flash drive either in BIOS or UEFI and proceed with the system installation. There is no universal instruction on how to boot from a flash drive in BIOS since BIOS configurations can vary. An approximate guide is available in our previous article.
Now, let’s move on to the actual system installation. The first window will prompt you to select the language. Choose the desired language and click “Next.”
Click “Install now”.
Now, select the system version for installation. In this example, I will choose Windows 8.1 Professional (Pro).
Agree to the license terms.
Choose the “Custom Installation” option since I am installing a clean system from scratch.
Next, select the target disk (partition) for system installation. You may have multiple disks, so choose accordingly. In our case, there is only one disk, so select it and click “Next.”
Now, the system will start unpacking and installing. Please wait for it to complete.
The system may reboot a couple of times and begin preparing for startup.
In the next window, you will be prompted to enter the product key for the system. You can enter it at this step or skip and activate it later in the installed system. For a more illustrative example, I will skip this step and activate the system later.
At this point, you can create a local account for logging into the system.
Set the name for your account.
Now, wait for the system to prepare your desktop.
Installation is now complete. Let’s proceed to activate the system. Go to the “Properties” menu of the system, and you will see that activation is required. Click on “Activate the system.”
Now, click on the “Enter key” button.

After entering a product key, the system will display “Thanks, you’re for all done”.
That’s it, now you can go back to the “Properties” menu of the system to check for the activation.
