In this article, we will discuss a situation where you want to install Windows 10, for example, the Pro version, but during installation, you do not have the option to choose the version of Windows 10, and the “Home” version is automatically installed. I’am considering the option of installation from BIOS on a bootable flash drive.

Why does this situation occur?
This situation occurs because a Windows 10 license is already embedded in the BIOS of your laptop or PC. The system installer checks for the manufacturer’s embedded product key in your BIOS/UEFI, and if it is present, the Windows installer automatically detects your version and installs the appropriate edition.

How to solve this issue if you want to install a different version of Windows 10?
1. Burn the installer to a flash drive using the official Microsoft utility according to the following instructions.

2. After writing to the flash drive, create a text document (open Notepad) and enter the following commands:

[EditionID] [Channel] Retail

Then save this file with the name ei.cfg (Attention! The final extension of your file should be .cfg, not .txt)

Alternatively, you can download the ready-made file from our server – Download
3. Next, copy the ei.cfg file to the sources folder on your previously created bootable flash drive.

4. Now you can boot again to your bootable flash drive from BIOS/UEFI, and you will have the option to choose the version of Windows 10.
