Windows 10 Pro for Workstations it is a sub-edition of Windows 10 Pro (Professional). Its main difference from the regular Pro version is that it is intended for high-performance computers, such as servers or special computer builds.

Supporting powerful hardware, it includes special functionalities and allows installation of a custom new file system. A product key for Windows 10 Pro for Workstations costs 14.7 €. More details can be found on the next page.

This system is only available in x64 bit. To install, you need to download the installer, which can be done at this link. Install it like any other Windows version by selecting the corresponding installation option, after writing the installer to a USB flash drive.

Windows 10 Pro for Workstations can support up to 4 processors, similar to a server system, and up to 6 terabytes of RAM! In comparison, the standard Windows 10 Pro can only work with 2 processors and up to 2 TB of RAM. Additionally, the “For Workstations” version supports a special type of RAM – NVDIMM, which is non-volatile memory capable of retaining data even during power outages.

Preinstalled Applications – This version of Windows 10 comes with only the most useful and necessary applications according to Microsoft. You won’t find preinstalled games or various “entertainment” programs (if needed, they can be installed separately).

SMB Direct – Another legacy of server functions. In brief, this technology enhances network performance without burdening the CPU.

ReFS – The new file system is a resilient file system created based on NTFS with enhanced functionality:

(1 EB – One million terabytes)

• Maximum file size — 18.3 EB;
• Maximum partition size — 402 EB;
• Maximum number of characters in a file name and path – 32767.

In contrast, NTFS supports 16 TB, 18.4 EB, and 255 characters respectively.

The best advantage of ReFS is its greater data integrity and faster read-write performance.

New Power Management. Here you will find a fourth setting in “Power Options” – “Maximum Performance”. This setting provides direct access to the hardware for power management, eliminating any micro-lags.

This concludes the feature overview. In summary, even if you don’t have a supercomputer, but need “special” features like a new file system or power management, you can purchase Windows 10 Pro for Workstations for your home computer.
