In this article, we will look at how to check the hash (checksum) of ISO/IMG files and any other files in Windows using the HashTab application. This is especially important for operating system images, such as Windows, or other large files. We will explore how to use checksums to verify the integrity of files and ensure that they have been downloaded without errors.

A checksum is a unique code created based on the file’s contents. It allows you to verify that the file was downloaded completely and without distortion. If no data bytes were lost during the download, the file is considered intact and safe to use.

There are many algorithms for creating checksums, such as CRC, MD5, and others. These algorithms help generate a unique checksum for each file. We will use the HashTab application, which supports various operating systems, including Windows and Mac, to verify checksums.

Checksum Verification Process

1. Download the HashTab application: First, download the checksum calculation application from the developer’s website.

2. Install the application: After downloading, unzip the archive and install the application on your computer.

3. Verify the file: As an example, we will check the Windows installer image. Find the image file on your computer (any file, installer, etc.), right-click on it, and select “Properties.” In File Explorer, an additional option for calculating file checksums should appear. Click on it, and the calculation process will begin.

4. Compare the checksums: Hash values are usually provided on the website from which you downloaded the file. Compare the results from the HashTab application with these values. If they match, the file has been downloaded correctly.

Checking checksums is an important step to ensure the security and integrity of downloaded files. It is a simple way to verify that all data has been transmitted without errors or distortions. By using this method, you can be confident in the authenticity of your files and their readiness for use.
