If you have already activated Windows 7 in any way, for example, if you bought a PC with a licensed Windows, or you activated the system yourself with a licensed key, or used an activator program or crack (which we strongly discourage! It is illegal and cracks do not solve the problem of periodic activation failure).

What happens if Windows 7 is not activated?

– When you turn on your computer and start the system, a window will appear prompting you to activate. You cannot manually close it; you need to wait 20 seconds for it to close automatically.
– The desktop background will turn black with a warning in the bottom right corner that the system is not genuine. If you change the desktop background, it will turn black again after 20 minutes.
– Periodically, at random intervals, a window will pop up asking you to activate, minimizing all other windows and applications, or appearing on top of all windows.
– There will be hourly reboots in the Standard and Ultimate editions.

Now, let’s finally look at the reasons why Windows 7 activation failed and how to fix them. There can be several reasons, which we will discuss in order.

1) The problem could be with the installed patch kb971033, obtained from the Windows Update Center, where it may be called WAT Update. To fix the issue with this patch, you need to uninstall this update. To do this, go to Control Panel => Programs and Features => In the left pane, find “Installed Updates” => Find kb971033 or WAT Update – these patches need to be removed. => Click OK and wait for the uninstallation to complete.

Alternatively, you can do this via the command line. Search for CMD in the Start menu => Run as Administrator. In the command line window, type: wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:971033.

Restart your PC.

2) The second method is for those who already had an OEM key (license on a sticker) that came with the computer from the factory or you purchased your key separately. The cause may be update error 0x8004FE21. This solution may also help you:

– Search for CMD in the Start menu => Run as Administrator. (After each command, press Enter on the keyboard)

– Enter the command Slmgr /rearm. Do not restart.
– Next command: Wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:971033. Do not restart.
– Next: Sfc /scannow. Do not restart.
– Next: net stop sppsvc, if it asks for confirmation, type “Yes”.
– Next: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
– Next: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
– Next: cd %windir%\system32
– Next: net start sppsvc

After executing these commands, you need to restart your computer. After restarting, activate the system again using your key from the sticker or any other source.
